The first half of the talk covers Barn Owl identification, a bit of ecology, and the reasons behind the decline of the species. The second half covers Barn Owl conservation and the work of the Trust. The talk culminates with the inclusion of global environmental issues and their effects on Barn Owls, and ends with a moving combination of music and specially chosen images.
‘Restoring the Balance' not only tells people all about Barn Owls and their conservation, it also points out the environmental consequences of everyday human activities. Describing the plight of the Barn Owl and how all the causes of its decline are man-made encourages people to think of the wider issues involved.

Reasons for the historical decline
In 2005 we started offering an entirely new presentation as a follow-up to ‘Restoring the Balance' entitled ‘The Lennon Legacy Project'. This is concerned with an amazing project the Trust has been running since 2001 - it's all about an area of land the Trust acquired after receiving a wonderful legacy. The project slogan is "transforming 26 acres of intensively grazed sheep pasture into 26 acres of Barn Owl heaven". You can find out more about the project by following the link opposite.
Each talk lasts for approximately 45 to 70 minutes depending on the depth of interest and number of questions. The talks are illustrated with beautiful images and the Trust provides all the equipment (screen, projector stand etc.).

Other educational resources we provide
Both talks are suitable for a wide range of groups. Talks so far have been presented to natural history societies, local Wildlife Trust groups, RSPB members groups, National Trust groups, Women's Institutes, amenity societies, Rotary and Probus clubs, Young Farmers groups, and many others. By 2006 we had given over 360 adult talks to over 14,000 people.
